Morrison Tech Announces the 2026 Battle of the High Schools Event

The Morrison Institute of Technology The is supporting the Battle of the High Schools this coming Saturday, May 23, 2026. The event is exclusively for high school students and student teams.

This upcoming event marks a new partnership between Morrison Tech and Cordova Dragway to support technical interests among high school participants—a natural fit between drag racing youth and the school’s technical education curriculum.

The event features all-run bracket racing, a team points competition by high school, individual racing awards, a burnout contest, and teacher call-out races where students can compete against their favorite teachers. Strict rules prohibit alcohol on the grounds.

2026 is going to be a tremendous series of events from Spring to Fall! Some great events continue, such as the Season Ignitor and Average Joe’s Triple 777’s, and they’ll be joined by exciting new events like the Gallstar and Stripes $100K Bracket Weekend, Junior Chaos, and more. We’re also thrilled to bring big new fan-favorite pro-shows such as JET FEST, Funny Car Chaos, the Nitro Chaos World Finals, and—of course—the Summer Nationals and the World Series of Drag Racing!

Coming October 18 – HALLOWEIRD!

Prepare for the ultimate fusion of spine-tingling speed and supernatural shenanigans at Cordova Dragway’s Halloweird event on Saturday, October 18. The weather is forecast to be exceptionally good for a wicked whirlwind of roaring engines, glowing jack-o’-lanterns, and ghostly good times designed to haunt your wildest racing dreams. From costume-clad competitors burning rubber down the quarter-mile to families feasting on frightful fun.

OKTOBERFEST – PART OF CORDOVA DRAGWAY’S GREAT LINEUP OF FALL EVENT LIN

We’re all excioted at Cordova Dragway is excited to announce the return of its popular Oktoberfest event, scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025. This action-packed day will combine racing with fall festive fun, Classes feature the NO-BOX and BOX Combo with a winner’s payout of $1,300, the Sportsman Spooktacular offering $400 to the top racer, and the Junior Dragster All Run with a $250 prize.

Additionally, the Gambler race starts with a $250 pot, and an Open Test & Tune session is available for $35 entry. Gates open at 10 AM with the track heating up at 12 noon,

THE TRIPLE 7s ARE COMING – – AGAIN!

Wells Racing Promotions Triple 7s are counting down for September 26,27 and 28 for their well-known 7K each day bracket racing event. What makes 2025 interesting is that Saturday for both their May and September events will payout $14,000 to the winner, with each day before and after paying $7,000 to win. FALL FUN DAY INCLUDES THE “RACE FOR THE ROD.”

The World Drag Racing Alliance (WDRA) offers a coveted award for its focused sportsman racing: a large billet aluminum connecting rod. This ornamental rod stands proudly on many WDRA drag racers’ mantels. On September 20th, Cordova Dragway has secured six of these special awards. Competitors in the Box, No Box, Sportsman, Super Junior, Novice Junior, and Trophy classes at the Fall Fun Day will be awarded these trophy awards, in addition to a generous purse. On Saturday, May 24th. Cordova Dragway will roll out the red carpet for the Battle of the High Schools. High school racers compete for individual racing awards, a burnout contest, and grudge-style “callouts” between racers and your favorite teacher. The mainstay for the High School racers is the all-run bracket racing program, where you will race for individual awards plus a points tally/ where competitors will represent their high school in a team points competition.

February 1st – Our Racers Banquet hosted at Bally’s Quad Cities Casino. We will have door prizes, gift baskets, and our Quarter-Max Chassis & Racing Components Points Awards. One night we all get to dress to impress, so come out and have some fun!
March 22nd – Rounding out our Winter Event is our Trip Zip Nationals! We’ll have both top and bottom bulb competitions. Food and Drink specials, hot slots, and more!

The BOP Nationals will offer a wealth of racing, car show, and swap meet activities for Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac enthusiasts on Saturday, September 21st. The drag racing portions will feature on-track action such as Test and Tune, BOP/Slicks, BOP Street, Trophy Race, King of the Hill Challenge, Brand X, and a Quick 8 Shootout. There will also be the Holden Challenge race, Swap Meet, and a big Car Show. And what would this day be without a guest appearance by the legendary Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick!

70 YEARS OF MEMORIES, 70 YEARS OF THRILL SEEKING, 70 YEARS OF TRADITIONS.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts 70th World Series of Drag Racing is now another chapter in Cordova’s long history.

Now that everyone has had more than two hours of sleep and our bodies have filtered out the nitro fumes, we can think straight. In many ways I am sad it is over, but we are excited for what is in store for the next one.

This event is more than just a drag race, more than just a camping trip, more than just a feature show and more than just et slips, it is a pilgrimage. Now I am not saying the sand of Cordova Dragway is “holy” but it does have an effect on all of us. The World Series of Drag Racing is all about the people. We are very blessed to have great people in every aspect of Cordova Dragway.

Thank you to our race teams. Each and everyone of you continues to make the event phenomenal. No matter if you win or lose, you are there for the team next to you. We are very lucky to have you as part of the family.

Thank you to O’Reilly Auto Parts. I am pretty sure that everyone will like the sound of “Welcome to the 100th O’Reilly Auto Parts World Series of Drag Racing”, as this partnership continues for years to come.

The final Midnight Mayhem will be held on On Friday, August 30th. Exclusively for street-legal cars and trucks with DOT tires and mufflers, promises a night filled with unique events. These two iconic Chicagoland hot rods have been battling on the dragstrip since before many fans were born. Bob Mayerle and his family from Pro Glass Windows compete with their Peppermint Twist against the equally famed Shake, Rattle and Run 1957 Chevy, still owned by the Mensino family. These two “shoebox” cars are the innovative grandfathers bridging the gap between gasser racing and the early years of today’s insanely popular Top Sportsman and Pro Modified competition. The 2024 SUMMER NATIONALS HAS REACHED THE HOLY GRAIL STATUS OF FUNNY CAR EVENTS

Since the 1960s, Funny Car events that offered more than 32 Funny Cars in attendance were considered the ultimate in drag racing events. History has changed very little, and the Cordova Dragway Summer Nationals is hosting more than 32 entries. This now means that on Friday night and Saturday, June 14 & 15, actual qualifying will begin to set the 32-car field, leading up to the Saturday evening eliminations.

THE MAY MIDNIGHT MAYHEM AND BATTLE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS

On Friday night of May 24th, rally your friends and rivals! Discover who owns the most formidable street car. Midnight Mayhem, exclusively for street-legal cars and trucks with DOT tires and mufflers, promises a night filled with unique events. Burnout Contests, ‘Top the Cops’ challenge, Db Sound Drags, dragstrip ‘callout’ style grudge racing throughout the night.

On Saturday, May 25th. Cordova Dragway will roll out the red carpet for the Battle of the High Schools. High school racers compete for individual racing awards, a burnout contest, and grudge-style “callouts” between racers and your favorite teacher. The mainstay for the High School racers is the all-run bracket racing program, where you will race for individual awards plus a points tally/ where competitors will represent their high school in a team points competition.

The race day schedule includes Test-N-Tune, Trophy, Gamblers, Junior Dragster, All Run Street Car, All Run, DOT Tires, and Rookie Races. Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac Fans Celebrate • Cordova Style

Check out the 2024 BOP Nationals event, coming September 24, 2014. The event flyer (visit here} is jam-packed with so many drag racing and car show features that we could barely fit them on a flyer!
There will be a Car Show, Swap Meet, and Drag Racing with many classes, including a “King of the Hill” BOP shootout between the winners. We will also feature a “Brand X” bracket race for all makes and models. There is also a “Holden Challenge” and a special appearance by Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick.
